Tanning tips:
•Tanning for a vacation or special occasion takes time and it is best to start three weeks to a month prior, depending on how fair skinned you are.
•To achieve you maximum tanning potential, clean, hydrated skin tans best. Check your moisturizer for high levels of SPF's, these can inhibit your progress. Make-up and foundation powders can also.
•Shower and exfoliate your skin using a creamy exfoliator before your tan rather than after. A loofah or buff puff won't do as great a job. Also, use an indoor tanning lotion formulated to work with UV beds.
•When you first start tanning, tan for shorter session times, and come every other day increasing your session time slowly to ensure you do not burn.

Facts:
•The professional tanning industry promotes and teaches the smart tanning rule: Don't ever sunburn.
•The professional tanning industry is more effective in teaching sunburn prevention.
•Non-tanners sunburn more often than indoor tanners.
•Having a base tan, combined with proper use of sunscreen outdoors, will help prevent sunburn. 30 million North American indoor tanners successfully develop "base Tans" before enjoying their sunny vacation locations.
•The body's natural protection against the sun is a tan. Your skin is designed to tan as a natural body function, and the body is designed to repair sun damage as a natural process.

Question: "Should i really use tanning lotion when i tan indoors?"

There are two good reasons we recommend it: You'll get better results and you'll be taking better care of your skin. Indoor tanning lotions are special moisturizers which help enable the light rays to interact with your skin's melanin to create a tan. Indoor tanning products also have key ingredients-like proteins-that help your skin create more melanin which is what develops your tan. While lotion helps you get more tanning bang for your buck, even more critical is its role in maintaining good skin care.

Question: "Which bed can i use my first time?"

First time customers may use any level of our UV equipment that suits their needs. Based on your skin type and tanning goals, our consultants will determine your initial tan time and tanning bed. After building a base tan, most of our customers use a combination of beds.

Question: "Do i have to wear eyeware while tanning indoors?"

Yes, your eyes are very sensitive to UV light and should not be exposed while tanning. Sunglasses, towels, cotton balls, and closing your eyes are not adequate protection in a tanning bed. UV light is responsible for both short and long-term injury to the eyes and can easily be avoided by properly using FDA-certified eyewear.

Question: "What can i do FOR THE BEST RESULTS AND A LONG-LASTING TAN?"

MOISTURIZE, MOISTURIZE, MOISTURIZE. Using a high quality moisturizer will help replenish the vitamins and nutrients that are lost during the tanning session, keeping your skin smooth and younger looking while helping you maintain the color that you love. Another secret: switch your tanning lotion every so often to boost your color.

Question: "If you don't tan well outside, can i get a tan in a tanning bed?"

Usually, you will tan about as well indoors as you do outdoors. If you have never been able to produce a tan outdoors, you will not be able to produce a tan indoors either. Some who do not tan well outdoors are able to tan indoors in a controlled environment with the right amount of exposure in carefully controlled intervals.

Question: "Is it ok to shower right away after tanning?"

ABSOLUTELY! Tanning is a process that can take up to 23 hours to develope. You can not "wash" away your tan, unless you are using a self-tanner, shaving right away, or exfoliating.

Question: "What does it mean to tan smart?"

To tan smart is to build up your tan in a controlled and gradual manner. This gives your body a natural tan without burning, giving pigment a chance to develop and increasing your protection to UV light. It may take longer but you reduce the risk of over exposure and skin damage. Gradual exposure will not only build a better tan but will prevent the negative aspects of over exposure.

Question: "Why should i only buy indoor tanning lotion from my salon?"

Consumers may not be getting the indoor tanning products that they think they are when they purchase them through unauthorized outlets like discount websites, local flea markets or non-tanning outlets. Outdated, discontinued, damaged and tampered-with products are often the products that are diverted into these outlets.

Question: "How tanning works:

Tanning takes place in the skin's outermost layer called the epidermis where special cells called the melanocytes react to ultraviolet (UV) light. When exposed to UV-B light (short wave UV), melanocytes produce the pigment known as melanin. The pinkish melanin travels up through the epidermis and is absorbed by other skin cells. When exposed to UV-A light (longer wave UV), melanin oxidizes or darkens. This is your skin's way of protecting itself against too much UV light.

Question: "Indoor tanning"

Tanning indoors allows us to monitor and control UV-A and UV-B exposure so that you can safely tan without burning.

Question: "Outdoor tanning"

When tanning outdoors, you are exposed to uncontrolled and often excessive amounts of multifrequency UV light that can cause "sunburn" and eventually lead to permanent damage. Climate can also affect your tanning experience. Over cast skies or sweltering temperatures can make tanning uncomfortable, and often impossible to determine if there's been over-exposure.
